Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to an accessible website for all visitors.

Our Commitment

Valley Legal is committed to making its website accessible to people with disabilities. We aim to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA as our implementation target.

We believe that accessible web design benefits all users, not only those with disabilities, and we treat accessibility as an ongoing priority rather than a one-time effort.

Technical Approach

This site has been designed and built with the goal of including the following accessibility features. These reflect design-level and code-level implementation decisions; they have not been independently verified through a formal third-party audit. Where features are described below, they represent intended behavior that we believe has been implemented correctly, not a certified conformance claim.

  • Skip navigation link: A "skip to main content" link appears at the top of every page for keyboard users.
  • Semantic HTML landmarks: Pages use proper landmark regions (header, nav, main, footer, aside) to aid screen reader navigation.
  • Heading hierarchy: Each page uses a logical heading structure to convey document organization.
  • Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are reachable and operable by keyboard.
  • Visible focus indicators: Focused elements display a clearly visible focus ring.
  • Color contrast: Text and interface elements are designed to meet or exceed the WCAG 2.2 AA contrast ratio requirements (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
  • Alternative text: Meaningful images include descriptive alternative text; decorative images are marked accordingly.
  • Accessible forms: Form inputs are associated with visible labels, and error messages are announced to assistive technology.
  • Mobile accessibility: The site is responsive and functional across a range of screen sizes and touch-based devices.
  • Reduced motion: Animations and transitions are suppressed for users who have enabled the "prefer reduced motion" system setting.
  • Background video: The homepage hero contains a short looping background video. It is muted and decorative, and carries no information that is not also available in the surrounding text. It does not play for visitors who have enabled the "prefer reduced motion" system setting. A visible Pause control is provided; it is reachable and operable by keyboard and stops the video for any visitor who prefers it. No other page uses autoplaying video, and the site does not play audio automatically anywhere.
  • Accessible navigation menu: The mobile navigation menu uses proper ARIA attributes and keyboard event handling, including Escape-key dismissal.
  • Accessible accordion FAQ: The FAQ section uses an accessible button-based accordion with correct ARIA expanded states.
  • Consent banner accessibility: The cookie consent banner is keyboard accessible and screen-reader announced.

Known Limitations

We work continuously to improve accessibility. The following limitations or areas of ongoing review have been identified:

  • Third-party components: This site includes components supplied by third parties whose code we do not control. These are the ValleyMatter intake widget, which provides the consultation request form, and Cloudflare Turnstile, the challenge used on our inquiry forms to distinguish human visitors from automated submissions. We selected these components with accessibility in mind, but we cannot control their markup, focus handling, or contrast, and they may not fully meet the standards we apply to the rest of the site. If a third-party component prevents you from contacting us, please call or email the firm using the details below and we will take your inquiry that way.
  • PDF documents: Any PDF documents linked from this site may not be fully accessible. If you need an accessible version of a linked document, please contact us and we will make reasonable efforts to provide an alternative.

Conformance Status

This site is designed to conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA as our implementation target. We have conducted design-level and code-level review to address accessibility requirements. However, we have not completed a formal third-party accessibility audit. Full conformance cannot be claimed without such an audit.

We encourage users to report any accessibility barriers they encounter so we can address them promptly.

If you encounter an accessibility barrier on this website, we want to hear about it. Please contact us using any of the methods below:

When contacting us about an accessibility issue, please describe the problem as specifically as possible, including the page URL and the nature of the barrier. We will acknowledge your report and work in good faith to address it.
